Looking for an independent vet?

What does being an independent vet actually mean?

The veterinary profession has changed considerably in recent years, with many practices becoming part of large corporate veterinary groups.

It isn't always obvious from the name above the door who owns a veterinary practice.

Kimbolton Vets is different. We are independently and locally owned.

There is no distant head office deciding how our practice should operate. Our clinical and business decisions are made by the people who work here, with the needs of our patients and clients at the centre of them.

For us, independence means being able to build the kind of veterinary practice we believe our community deserves.

Why we chose to be independent

Kimbolton Vets was founded by our Head Vet Becky with a simple ambition: to create the kind of veterinary practice she wanted to work in and the kind of practice she would want looking after her own pets.

Being independent gives us the freedom to make our own decisions about the care we provide, the way our team works and the experience our clients receive.

We can invest where we think it will make the greatest difference, choose how we practise veterinary medicine and set our own prices.

Most importantly, the people making those decisions are the same people you'll meet in the practice.

What does independence mean for you and your pet?

Decisions made by your veterinary team

Clinical decisions are made by our vets together with you, based on what we believe is appropriate for your pet.

Our team has the freedom to practise veterinary medicine in the way we believe provides the best care.

A practice that knows you

We want Kimbolton Vets to feel like your local veterinary practice rather than simply another branch of a national organisation.

Wherever possible, we want you to know the people caring for your pet — and for us to know you and your pet too.

Our own transparent pricing

We set our prices here in Kimbolton.

We believe veterinary clients should be able to understand what things cost, which is why we publish prices for many of our common services.

Local accountability

If something works well, we know about it.

If something needs changing, we can change it.

There isn't a chain of regional management between our clients and the people responsible for running the practice.

Are you looking for a vet that isn't owned by a corporate group?

Some people searching for a new veterinary practice specifically look for non-corporate vets, locally owned vets, or even search for vets that are “not owned by the big six” veterinary groups.

The terminology varies, but the underlying question is usually the same:

Who actually owns and runs my vet?

At Kimbolton Vets, the answer is straightforward.

We are an independent, family-owned veterinary practice. We are not owned by a corporate veterinary group or veterinary chain.

You don't have to take our word for it, either. Our independent ownership has been externally verified by veterinary-practice ownership directories like: Who Owns Your Vet?
